Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legally binding agreement between you and BoolRider LLC, an Illinois limited liability company, governing your access to and use of the BoolRider mobile application, website, and all related services (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account, accessing, or using BoolRider, you agree to be bound by these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Cancellation Policy, all of which are incorporated by reference. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

Please read Section 15 (Arbitration and Class Action Waiver) carefully. It requires most disputes to be resolved through binding individual arbitration rather than in court, and limits the manner in which you may seek relief.

1. The BoolRider Platform

BoolRider is a technology platform that facilitates cost-shared ridesharing arrangements among verified college students. Drivers who are already planning a trip post their route and available seats; riders browse posted trips and request to join. BoolRider does not accept or fulfill rider-initiated transportation requests to custom destinations.

BoolRider is a technology and matching service, not a transportation provider. We do not own, operate, or control any vehicles. We do not employ, contract, or supervise drivers. We do not provide, arrange, or guarantee transportation. Drivers are independent users of the platform who are making trips for their own purposes and voluntarily sharing available seats. All ridesharing arrangements facilitated through BoolRider are private, voluntary cost-sharing arrangements between individual users. BoolRider's role is limited to providing the software service that enables users to discover compatible trips, communicate, and share the cost of travel.

2. Eligibility

To use BoolRider, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States and possess a valid .edu email address.
  • Be legally capable of entering into a binding contract.
  • Not have been previously suspended or removed from the Service.

By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you meet all eligibility requirements. BoolRider reserves the right to verify your eligibility at any time and to suspend or terminate your account if you do not meet these requirements.

3. Account Registration and Security

To use BoolRider, you must create an account using a valid .edu email address. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep your account information updated.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify BoolRider immediately at privacy@boolrider.com if you become aware of any unauthorized use of your account.

You may not share your account with anyone else, create more than one account, or create an account on behalf of another person. BoolRider may suspend or terminate any account that we reasonably believe is being used in violation of these Terms.

4. Identity Verification

BoolRider verifies your identity through two mechanisms:

  • Email verification: You must confirm ownership of a valid .edu email address.
  • Government ID verification and live facial verification (drivers only): If you wish to offer rides as a driver, you must submit a government-issued identification document through our payment processor, Stripe. As part of this process, you will be required to complete a live facial verification, which confirms that you are the person depicted on the identification document you submit. Both the ID verification and facial verification are performed entirely by Stripe. BoolRider does not receive, access, or store your identity documents or facial verification data. For more information about how Stripe handles your biometric information, please review Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

Failure to complete identity verification may limit your ability to use certain features of the Service, including posting rides or making bookings.

5. Driver Requirements and Responsibilities

To offer rides on BoolRider, you must, in addition to meeting the general eligibility requirements in Section 2:

  • Hold a valid driver's license issued by a U.S. state or territory.
  • Use a vehicle that is currently and validly registered and legal to operate. The vehicle need not be registered in your name; if it is not, you represent and warrant that you have the registered owner's permission to operate it for the purpose of providing rides through BoolRider.
  • Be covered under a valid automobile insurance policy for the vehicle you use — whether the policy is your own or one under which you are a covered driver (for example, a policy held by a parent) — that meets or exceeds the minimum coverage required by the state in which you operate, and provide proof of such insurance to BoolRider.
  • Scope of BoolRider's insurance review: BoolRider reviews submitted insurance documentation only to confirm that a current policy exists for the vehicle. BoolRider does not verify that you are a covered or named driver under the policy, and does not verify that the policy permits carrying passengers in a cost-shared ridesharing arrangement. Sole responsibility for confirming both rests with you, and you represent and warrant that you have confirmed with the applicable insurer that your use of the vehicle on BoolRider is covered.
  • Provide accurate information about your vehicle, including make, model, color, and license plate number. License plate numbers are collected to support safety and incident-reporting features, including emergency assistance during a trip, and are masked in the app interface as described in our Privacy Policy.

As a driver, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are posting trips that you are already planning to take for your own purposes. You are sharing available seats with other students, not providing transportation as a commercial service.
  • Your driver's license has not been suspended or revoked.
  • Your vehicle is in safe operating condition and passes all applicable state inspection requirements.
  • You will comply with all applicable traffic laws, regulations, and ordinances while operating your vehicle.
  • You will not operate your vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that impairs your ability to drive safely.
  • You understand that the cost contribution you receive from riders is reimbursement for your vehicle operating expenses (fuel, wear, and mileage) on a nonprofit basis, and does not constitute payment for a transportation service.
  • You understand and accept that the automobile insurance policy covering the vehicle you use is the primary coverage for any incident that occurs during a ride. Because BoolRider facilitates cost-shared ridesharing arrangements — not commercial transportation — that policy should generally apply. However, BoolRider makes no representations about your insurance coverage and strongly recommends that you confirm with your insurer that your policy covers carrying passengers in a cost-shared ridesharing arrangement. BoolRider does not provide automobile insurance, supplemental coverage, or any form of liability coverage for rides facilitated through the platform.
  • You are solely responsible for any traffic violations, parking tickets, tolls, accidents, injuries, or property damage that occur in connection with any ride.

BoolRider reserves the right to request updated documentation at any time and to suspend or remove drivers who fail to maintain these requirements.

6. Rider Responsibilities

As a rider, you agree that:

  • You will be present at the agreed-upon pickup location at the agreed-upon time.
  • You will treat the driver and their vehicle with respect. You are responsible for any damage you or your belongings cause to a driver's vehicle.
  • You will wear a seatbelt at all times during the ride.
  • You will not bring illegal substances, weapons, or hazardous materials into any vehicle.
  • You will not ask or encourage a driver to violate traffic laws or drive unsafely.
  • You acknowledge that ridesharing arrangements are between you and the driver. BoolRider provides the technology to discover and coordinate these arrangements but does not provide transportation and makes no representations or warranties about the safety, reliability, or quality of any ride or driver.

7. Trip Listings, Bookings, and Cost Sharing

7.1 Trip Listings

Drivers post trips they are already planning to take, specifying origin, destination, departure window, available seats, and any applicable preferences or notes. Only drivers may create trip listings. BoolRider does not accept rider-initiated requests for transportation to custom destinations; riders may only browse and join trips that drivers have independently posted.

7.2 Cost-Sharing Price Cap

The cost contribution charged to riders is limited to reimbursement of the driver's vehicle operating expenses, shared proportionally among all occupants of the vehicle (including the driver). BoolRider calculates the maximum per-seat cost contribution using the following formula:

Maximum per-seat price = (trip distance in miles × IRS standard mileage rate) ÷ total occupants (driver + riders)

The IRS standard mileage rate is updated annually. As of January 1, 2026, the rate is $0.725 per mile. Drivers may set their cost contribution at or below the calculated maximum but may not exceed it. This cap ensures that drivers receive reimbursement for operating expenses only and do not profit from providing rides.

7.3 BoolRider Service Fee

BoolRider may charge a service fee for providing the technology platform that enables users to discover, coordinate, and transact ridesharing arrangements. This fee is compensation for BoolRider's matching, communication, and payment processing services — it is not a fee for transportation. The service fee is charged to the rider separately and is not received by the driver. The applicable service fee, if any, will be disclosed to the rider before a booking is confirmed. BoolRider reserves the right to introduce, modify, or waive service fees at any time with reasonable notice to users.

7.4 Bookings

Riders may request to join an available trip. A booking is not confirmed until the driver accepts the request. Once a driver accepts a booking, both parties are expected to honor the arrangement, subject to the cancellation policy described in Section 8.

7.5 Payment Authorization

When a booking is accepted, the rider's payment method is authorized (held) for the cost contribution plus any applicable service fee. The charge is not captured until the trip is completed and confirmed.

7.6 No Guarantee of Availability

BoolRider does not guarantee that trips will be available for any particular route, time, or destination. The availability of trips depends entirely on drivers who independently choose to post their planned travel.

8. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations are subject to the following fee schedule, based on how far in advance of the scheduled departure the cancellation is made:

Cancellation windowFee
More than 24 hours before departureNo cancellation fee — full refund, less the fixed payment processing fee
6 to 24 hours before departure50% of ride price
Less than 6 hours before departure75% of ride price

Cancellation fees are deducted from the refund issued to the rider and paid to the driver as compensation for the cancelled booking.

Additionally, cancellations made within 12 hours of departure are recorded as late cancellations and may affect the cancelling user's reliability score, which is visible to other users.

No-shows: If a rider fails to appear at the agreed pickup location and time, or if a driver fails to depart for a confirmed trip, the absent party may be treated as a no-show. No-shows may result in a full charge (for riders) or a full refund (for rider when the driver no-shows), and will negatively impact the absent party's reliability score.

BoolRider reserves the right to modify this cancellation policy with reasonable notice to users. The policy in effect at the time a booking is confirmed will apply to that booking.

9. Payments and Payouts

All payments are processed through Stripe. By using BoolRider, you agree to Stripe's terms of service and privacy policy.

Riders: Your payment method is authorized when a booking is accepted. The charge is captured only after the trip is completed. If a trip is cancelled, your payment is refunded in accordance with the cancellation policy in Section 8.

Drivers: Cost-contribution payouts are processed through Stripe Connect. To receive payouts, you must complete Stripe's onboarding process, which may include providing additional identity and financial information directly to Stripe. BoolRider does not receive or store your bank account details. Payouts to drivers reflect only the cost-sharing contribution and do not include BoolRider's service fee.

Refunds and disputes: If you believe you were incorrectly charged, contact us at support@boolrider.com. BoolRider will review the transaction and may issue a refund, partial refund, or adjustment at its discretion. If a payment dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be subject to the arbitration provisions in Section 15.

BoolRider is not responsible for any fees, interest, or charges imposed by your bank, card issuer, or payment provider in connection with transactions on the platform.

10. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use BoolRider for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
  • Harass, threaten, intimidate, or engage in abusive behavior toward any other user.
  • Discriminate against any user on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Misrepresent your identity, affiliation, or the details of a ride listing or request.
  • Use the platform to transport illegal substances, weapons, or contraband.
  • Attempt to complete ridesharing transactions outside the BoolRider platform to avoid fees or circumvent these Terms.
  • Post a trip listing for a trip you do not genuinely intend to take for your own purposes, or post listings primarily for the purpose of earning money rather than sharing the cost of a trip you are already making.
  • Charge or attempt to charge riders above the cost-sharing cap calculated by BoolRider, or arrange supplemental payments outside the platform to circumvent the price cap.
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or other means to access or interact with the Service.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, servers, or networks connected to the Service.
  • Collect or harvest personal information about other users without their consent.
  • Post false, misleading, or defamatory reviews or ratings.
  • Create multiple accounts or create a new account after having been suspended or banned.

BoolRider reserves the right to investigate and take appropriate action in response to violations of this section, including issuing warnings, suspending accounts, permanently banning users, and reporting conduct to law enforcement where appropriate.

11. User Content

"User Content" means any text, photos, reviews, ratings, messages, or other content you submit, post, or transmit through the Service.

You retain ownership of your User Content. By posting User Content on BoolRider, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, reproduce, display, distribute, and create derivative works of your User Content in connection with operating, promoting, and improving the Service. This license continues even if you stop using the Service, but only with respect to User Content that was shared with other users or incorporated into the Service before your account was deleted.

You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights to post your User Content and that your User Content does not infringe the intellectual property or other rights of any third party.

BoolRider does not endorse any User Content and is not responsible for the accuracy, quality, or legality of User Content posted by users. We reserve the right, but have no obligation, to monitor, edit, or remove User Content at our sole discretion.

12. Intellectual Property

The BoolRider name, logo, branding, website, app, and all related content, features, and functionality (excluding User Content) are owned by BoolRider LLC and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service, nor may you reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of any software that comprises the Service.

13. Safety and Assumption of Risk

BoolRider is not responsible for the actions, conduct, safety, or reliability of any user. BoolRider provides a technology service that facilitates cost-shared ridesharing arrangements; it does not provide, supervise, or control transportation. By using the Service, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Ridesharing arrangements are made between independent individuals who voluntarily choose to share a trip. BoolRider does not screen, vet, or perform background checks on users beyond verifying .edu email addresses and facilitating Stripe identity verification.
  • BoolRider does not inspect vehicles, verify driving records, or guarantee that any driver or vehicle meets any particular safety standard.
  • You use the Service and participate in ridesharing arrangements at your own risk. You voluntarily assume all risks associated with using the platform and riding in or driving a vehicle with other users, including the risk of accident, injury, property damage, or death.
  • You are responsible for your own safety. BoolRider encourages all users to exercise caution, good judgment, and common sense when arranging and participating in ridesharing arrangements.

BoolRider provides in-app safety features, including user blocking, reporting, and reliability scores. These features are provided for informational purposes and user convenience. They do not constitute a guarantee of safety, nor do they create any duty or obligation on BoolRider's part to ensure user safety.

Safety Features: BoolRider may offer in-app safety features, such as tools that help you share trip details or contact assistance in an emergency. These features are provided as aids only. They are not a substitute for contacting emergency services directly, and BoolRider does not guarantee that any message or alert sent through such features will be delivered, received, or acted upon, or that any response will occur or will occur in time. In an emergency, always call 911.

14. Limitation of Liability and Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. To the fullest extent permitted by law, BoolRider disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranties arising out of course of dealing or usage of trade.

BoolRider does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that any content or information obtained through the Service will be accurate or reliable.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL BOOLRIDER, ITS OFFICERS, MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BOOLRIDER'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU HAVE PAID TO BOOLRIDER IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

15. Dispute Resolution: Binding Arbitration and Class Action Waiver

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING YOUR RIGHT TO FILE A LAWSUIT IN COURT.

15.1 Agreement to Arbitrate

You and BoolRider agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Service, or your relationship with BoolRider (collectively, "Disputes") will be resolved exclusively through final and binding individual arbitration, rather than in court, except as set forth below. This agreement to arbitrate is intended to be broadly interpreted.

15.2 Exceptions to Arbitration

Notwithstanding Section 15.1, either party may bring an individual action in small claims court for Disputes within the jurisdiction of such court. Either party may also seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent the actual or threatened infringement or misappropriation of intellectual property rights.

15.3 Arbitration Procedures

Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules then in effect, which are available at www.adr.org. If AAA is unavailable, the parties will mutually agree on an alternative arbitration provider. The arbitration will be conducted in the English language. The seat of arbitration shall be Champaign County, Illinois, unless you and BoolRider agree otherwise. The arbitrator shall have exclusive authority to resolve all Disputes, including the arbitrability of any Dispute.

15.4 Class Action Waiver

YOU AND BOOLRIDER AGREE THAT EACH PARTY MAY BRING DISPUTES AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding. If this class action waiver is found to be unenforceable, then the entirety of this arbitration provision shall be null and void, and the Dispute shall proceed in court.

15.5 Opt-Out

You may opt out of this arbitration provision by sending written notice to privacy@boolrider.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. The notice must include your name, BoolRider account email address, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of the arbitration agreement. If you opt out, you may pursue Disputes in court, subject to the governing law and jurisdiction provisions in Section 16.

16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and any Disputes not subject to arbitration shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of law principles. For any Disputes not subject to arbitration, you and BoolRider consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Champaign County, Illinois.

17. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless BoolRider and its officers, members, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:

  • Your use of or access to the Service.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your violation of any applicable law or regulation.
  • Your User Content.
  • Any ride in which you participate as a rider or driver.
  • Any dispute between you and another user.
  • Any claim by a third party arising from your actions or omissions in connection with the Service.

18. Modifications to the Service and Terms

Service: BoolRider reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.

Terms: We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of these Terms and by providing notice through the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after a change constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service and delete your account.

19. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by using the account deletion feature in the app, subject to the conditions described in our Privacy Policy (including the requirement to resolve active bookings before deletion).

BoolRider may suspend or terminate your account at any time, at our sole discretion, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Grounds for termination include, but are not limited to, violation of these Terms, fraudulent or illegal activity, conduct that endangers the safety of other users, or extended inactivity.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 20 shall survive termination.

20. General Provisions

  • Entire agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Cancellation Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and BoolRider regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
  • Waiver: BoolRider's failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
  • Assignment: You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your rights under them without BoolRider's prior written consent. BoolRider may assign its rights and obligations under these Terms without restriction.
  • Notices: BoolRider may provide notices to you through the app, by email to the address associated with your account, or by posting on the Service. You may provide notices to BoolRider by emailing privacy@boolrider.com.
  • No third-party beneficiaries: These Terms do not create any third-party beneficiary rights.
  • Force majeure: BoolRider shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing its obligations under these Terms due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, war, terrorism, pandemics, government actions, power failures, internet or telecommunications failures, or cyberattacks.

21. Contact Us

If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us at privacy@boolrider.com or through Settings > Contact Support in the app.
